Stones with faces are an extensive series of characters which come from the being of the stones which Philip Ernst found on his journeys. The stones on the beaches, the paths and alongside the road always have his special attention and he considers them as friends. According to Philip Ernst has every stone his own story to tell. He who sniffs at that doesn't realise that stones are much older and wiser than we are. Our age and life are compared to them a drop in the ocean. Philip Ernst enjoys engaging in conversations with these friends and he welcomes each pebble that fiends its way into his shoe a lift for many miles. Once back in his studio he turns his shoes upside down and his pockets inside out. All kinds of stone beings tumble down. Like no one else does he knows to touch the characteristic heart of the matter. He immediatly translates this into a digital image. Meanwhile Philip Ernst has put two series stones with faces to his name. In the most recent series ( Stones with Faces Hobbyclub) is the photographed head the core of the drawing.
